This is a beautiful kozuka constructed of suaka, a pumpkin colored copper, with very fine detailing of gold and silver along the excellently carved surface. A scene depicting a poet, perhaps Basho, with a contented smile, his broom in hand, is standing at his front door.Beneath the pine forest, his gaze is focused in the direction of the footpath which leads to his door perhaps anticipating a long awaited guest. The gold bordered door is not only open but is opened / sukashi thru to the reverse side of the handle, becoming the opening of a cave.
A very unusual multi dimensional piece the exquisite detail sets this kozuka apart from the average crafted piece. Condition is quite excellent and robust The size measures 9/16" (1.43 cm) x 3 7/8" (9.84 cm).
