A very nice example of the second pattern Luftwaffe officer's dagger, this piece has a beautiful light orange grip with no chips or cracks. The aluminum springy type wire is tightly wound and in excellent condition. The aluminum cross-guard and pommel have extensive hand enhancing including the oak leaves and there is also handiwork on the scabbard bands... the engraver obviously took pride in his work.
This particular blade is the unplated type bearing the SMF seated king trademark also having the earlier "5 in the chest" Waffenamt. There is some graying and minor pitting on the blade. People just cannot resist trying to test the sharpness of a blade... thank goodness they didn't attempt to sharpen it. An original-to-the-piece blue leather washer is in place and in perfect condition.
Nickel silvered scabbard is in excellent condition and is mounted with beautiful aluminum scabbard bands, exhibiting carefully done hand enhancing. The scabbard does have a very minor ding on the reverse side about an inch below the lower scabbard band, but it is so small I only mention it for descriptions sake.
Very nice original example of the 1937 pattern dagger with exceptional fittings!
