A fantastic pair of early 1900's candlesticks converted from original Imperial German naval officers' swords. These beautifully detailed Lions Head Grip handles are fitted with gilded Fouled Anchor guards and fittings, and faux Ivory wire wrapped grips. Both roaring lions heads are inset with multi-faceted red gems as the lions eyes, which look fantastic against nicely toned gilding. At the pommel's end, the blades have been almost completely cut down with the exception of the tang and a small section of the ricasso; and, there is no cutting edge. The upper fittings are set with gilded brass sconces and have matching gilded brass feet. Most of the sets you see today have very little gilding left due to the fact that people often try to clean them with "brass cleaner", which will wipe the gilding right off!!! This set retains most of its plating with most of the wear being due to handling. The quality of work in these sword hilts is particularly splendid as you can see in the closeups. Fine pieces of military memorabilia that would be a great conversation piece at a dinner party or as decoration in the "War Room". Measures approx. 10.5" inches tall.
